Tanzania Passenger Plane Crashes

A Tanzanian passenger plane has crashed into Lake Victoria as it tried to land in the lakeside town of Bukoba. According to reports, the flight was carrying 43 people, 26 of whom have been rescued and sent to hospital. The plane is almost completely submerged with only the brown and green tail fin above the water, surrounded by rescue workers and fishing boats.

National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, has appealed to Nigerians who are yet to be vaccinated to get the COVID-19 vaccines. The Secretary of the agency, Faisal Shuaib, made the call at a one-day evaluation meeting for the COVID-19 vaccination exercise. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu has sworn in 19 newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs. Yakubu charged the newly sworn in RECs to devote their loyalty to Nigeria and not to compromise the integrity of the commission. He also deployed the 19 RECs to their geopolitical zones but outside their states of origin, in line with INEC’s regulation.

SSANU Calls Out Federal Government Over Unpaid Arrears

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has expressed dissatisfaction over the non-payment of university workers and poor funding in nine state owned universities across the country. A communiqué made available to newsmen in Abuja, cautioned the Federal Government and vice-chancellors on plans to proscribe trade unions in tertiary institutions. The communiqué also commended its members over their resilience during the previous strike embarked by the union.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Shot in Protest March.

Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been shot and wounded in an attack on his protest march. Members of his PTI party said another four people were hurt in the shooting. Khan was seen being taken to a hospital in Lahore. The former prime minister was leading the march on the capital Islamabad to demand snap elections after he was ousted in April.
