Ferdinand Marcos has been sworn in as the country’s new president. Marcos’s inauguration marks a stunning political comeback, 36 years after the elder Marcos was toppled and forced into exile in a popular uprising. He won a rare landslide victory in last month’s presidential election. The new President succeeds Rodrigo Duterte, who gained international notoriety for his deadly drug war.

Outgoing Prime Minister of Israel, Naftali Bennett has revealed that he will not stand in the upcoming general election. Bennett announced this to lawmakers as Members of Parliament prepared to dissolve the Country's current legislature. He noted that he will continue to serve as alternate Prime Minister in a caretaker government.

Ecuador’s President, Guillermo Lasso has survived an attempt by opposition lawmakers to remove him from office. According to results read by the Parliament’s Secretary, Alvaro Salazar, the motion garnered only 80 of the 92 votes needed. The opposition-led congress had sought to remove right-wing Lasso over Political crisis and internal commotion caused by protesters.

At least 49 inmates have died and dozens injured during a riot in a prison in the Southwestern Colombia. Head of the National Prisons Agency, Tito Castellanos described the overnight incident as tragic and disastrous. Meanwhile, the outgoing President of Colombia, Ivan Duque assured that the incident would be investigated.

Iran has submitted an application to become a member of the group of emerging economies known as the BRICS. According to the Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the Country’s membership in the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, would result in added values for both sides. At least 46 people were found dead in an abandoned truck on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas. A fire official said 16 people, including four Children, had also been taken to hospital.
