Emma Raducanu was forced to retire from her Nottingham Open opener against Viktorija Golubic. Raducanu took a medical timeout early in the first set because of a problem to her left side. She conceded the match shortly after Golubic moved 4-3 up with a break of serve. It is the US Open champion's third mid-match retirement since her 2021 win.
Dominican Republic's minister of environment and natural resources, Orlando Mera, been shot dead in his office by a close friend. Officials say Mera was holding a meeting at the time of the attack. A presidential spokesman identified the assailant as Miguel Cruz, he is now in custody, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear. The late Minister had served in incumbent President Luis Abinader's administration since July 2020.
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has declared seven-day mourning in the State. Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani has withdrawn from the Presidential race of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Nnamani made this known during a press conference in Abuja. According to him, his decision was motivated by the party’s decision not to zone the Presidency to the South, specifically the South-East.

Nigeria’s crude oil exports jumped to N5.6trillion in the first quarter of 2022. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria’s total merchandise trade stood at N13 trillion in the first quarter of 2022, indicating an increase of 11.05 per cent over the value recorded in the fourth quarter of 2021 and 65.41 per cent higher when compared to the value recorded in the first quarter of 2021.
