Dominican Republic’s minister shot dead

Dominican Republic’s minister of environment and natural resources, Orlando Mera, been shot dead in his office by a close friend.

Officials say Mera was holding a meeting at the time of the attack.

A presidential spokesman identified the assailant as Miguel Cruz, he is now in custody, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

The late Minister had served in incumbent President Luis Abinader’s administration since July 2020.
