Lagos Government Urges Local Council to Comply with EIA Policies

Lagos State Government has urged authorities of the local government’s council to conform to Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, policies. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Omobolaji Gaji, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting in Alausa, Ikeja. Gaji noted that the ministry has adopted EIA as a formal process to identify the likely impacts that may arise from a proposed activity on the environment.

Ekiti Governor Appoints Permanent Secretaries

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has announced the appointment of 14 new permanent secretaries, two general managers, and six executive secretaries. A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, revealed that the appointments came after the officials scaled examinations in ICT, Civil Service Procedures, and General Knowledge. The statement added that the step was aimed at strengthening the leadership of the State Civil Service for greater service delivery.

Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has condemned the Killings in the South East. A statement issued by the Forum's Director, Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, called on leaders in the South East to address the problem. The statement urged those who are responsible to bring these outrageous provocations to an end, to do so immediately. It asked other Northern leaders to take responsible steps to calm nerves.

  Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emerged winner of the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Makinde polled a total of 1,040 votes to defeat his rival, Hazeem Gbolarunmi who had two votes. A total of six votes were void out of the total votes of 1,048.

The Accountant General of Rivers State, Fubara Siminialayi, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Siminialayi polled 721 votes to defeat his two closest rivals, Isaac Kamaku and George Kelly. Sixteen aspirants had contested for the party’s ticket after series of stakeholders’ meetings and consultations.
