Aston Villa has sacked manager Steven Gerrard following Thursday's 3-0 Premier League defeat at Fulham. Villa has won just twice in the league this season and only sit above the relegation zone on goals scored. Gerrard led Villa to only 13 wins from 40 games during his 11 months in charge.
Chad's military government has revealed that 50 people have been killed and more than 300 others wounded in a day of protest. Newly appointed Prime-Minister Saleh Kebzabo said some of the protesters were armed. Kebzabo stated that among those killed were members of the security forces. The government has announced a curfew in the capital and two other towns affected by the protests.
The Minister of State for Power, Godwin Jeddy-Agba has revealed that union members will face sanctions for shutting down national grid. Jedy-Agba disclosed this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee investigating frequent shutdown of the national electricity grid. The committee revealed that it would submit a report by next week.
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new Managing Director for the Niger Delta Development Commission, Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the appointment is in acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive managing director. Recall that President Buhari sacked the interim administrator of the board, Effiong Akwa, on Thursday.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has decorated 56 newly-promoted Senior Police Officers. Baba who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General, Sanusi Lemu, disclosed that a total of 465 officers were promoted to various ranks. Lemu stressed that promotion is a critical administrative instrument for elevating and repositioning competent personnel towards the attainment of critical internal security mandate.
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has confirmed the receipt of first payment of the 13 percent derivation fund as an oil producing state. Bello disclosed this at a weekly executive council meeting held at the Lugard House in Lokoja, the state capital. Argentines are celebrating the return of football legend Diego Maradona's World Cup final shirt to the country. Thirty-six years after Argentina beat Germany in the 1986 World Cup final, the shirt which Maradona wore in the first half has been handed back to the Argentine Football Association. Former Germany midfielder Lothar Matthäus, who had swapped shirts with Maradona at half time, donated it to the Argentine people.
Bulgaria has withdrawn from next year's Eurovision Song Contest. They become the latest country to pull out from the contest. The EBU which organizes the contest has now confirmed the list of 37 participants for the 2023 competition. Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Montenegro all failed to make it past the semi-final stage of this year's song contest.
The Federal Government has recorded a deficit of N5.33tn between January and August 2022, which is N430.82bn above the prorate level. The government spent N9.56tn from January to August 2022, out of N11.55tn pro data expenditure projected for the period.
