Nigerian equities has opened the week extending its losing streak for the fifth consecutive session as investors’ investment declined by N313 billion. The All Share Index decreased by 579.39 absolute points, representing a dip of 1.11 per cent to close at 51,400.53 points. Similarly, the market capitalization lost N313 billion to close at N27.718 trillion.
Federal Government says it has developed a National Strategic Framework for eliminating viral hepatitis in the country by 2030. The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this during the commemoration of the 2022 World Hepatitis Day in Abuja. Ehanire said the framework was in line with the Global Health Sector Strategy for viral hepatitis control.
United States has urged China to increase pressure on Myanmar following the military junta's execution of four democracy activists. State Department spokesperson Ned Price, noted that China could influence Myanmar more than any other country. A court in London has granted wife of a former Deputy Senate President, Beatrice Ekweremadu bail. The presiding judge granted her bail, but her husband who is the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial district, was denied bail. Recall that Ekweremadu was charged by the UK Metropolitan Police with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has decried the security challenges bedeviling the country. Ortom accused the President Muhammad Buhari of violating his oath of office because Nigerians are in pains under his watch. The Presidency however declined comment on the governor’s outburst.
Edo State government has revealed that eight persons tested positive for monkey pox in the state. Paulie Cicero in the 1990 mobster classic Goodfellas, has died at age 83. His publicist, Roger Neal, said he died of natural causes at his home in Indiana. The Tony Award nominated actor was best known for his portrayals of policemen and gangsters.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has disbursed N68.13billion to beneficiaries under its 100-for-100 Policy on Production and Productivity. CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this after the last Monetary Policy Committee meeting. According to the guidelines for the implementation of the initiative, the Apex Bank fixed the maximum loan amount that a participant could get at N5billion.
Ghana has recorded one more death from the Marburg virus bringing the number of deaths to three. According to the Country’s Health Authority, the latest victim of the virus exhibited symptoms after the maximum 21 days incubation period.
