British number one Emma Raducanu beat former world number one Victoria Azarenka. Raducanu continued her preparations for the defence of her US Open title with a 6-0 6-2 win in Cincinnati. She played Belarusian veteran, Azarenka just 18 hours after beating Williams, 6-4 6-0.
Nigerian singer, Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid has promised to drop a new song soon. In a post on his official Instagram account, Wizkid revealed that it has been two years since his last rerelease. He, however, assured his fans that he will be dropping a new music soon.
At least three people have been killed and dozens wounded when an explosion struck a mosque in Kabul, Afghanistan. Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran, revealed that the blast has casualties, but the numbers are not clear yet. The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, has suspended its nationwide strike. Secretary General of the Union, Joe Ajaero, revealed that the decision followed an emergency meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige on Wednesday. Ajaero assured that electricity would be restored across the country. Recall that electricity workers shut down all Transmission Companies of Nigeria, TCN, on Wednesday.
Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the state was under a partial lockdown by security agencies. Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested at least 192 suspected vandals. German director Wolfgang Petersen has died aged 81. A spokeswoman confirmed Petersen died of pancreatic cancer in Los Angeles. He directed stars such as Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt, over a career spanning five decades.
