Court Nullifies Ebonyi Local Government Election

A Federal High Court, sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, has nullified the recently conducted local government area election. In his ruling, the presiding judge, Rilman Fatun, ruled that the local government election, which held on July 30, 2022, contradicted the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act. Justice Fatun, stated that the election was undemocratic, unlawful, and shrouded in secrecy.

Germany Signs Deal to Repatriate Benin Bronzes to Nigeria

Germany has signed an agreement to transfer ownership to Nigeria of the Benin Bronzes looted in the 19th century. According to reports, the signing was done on Thursday between the Foundation of Prussian Cultural Heritage and Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments. Recall that the British Soldiers took hundreds of bronzes when they invaded the Kingdom of Benin in 1897.

Police Commission Union Declares Indefinite Strike

The Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission has issued a notice of indefinite strike to the Management of the Commission over a breach of agreement. Chairman of the Union, Adoyi Adoyi, disclosed this during an interview with newsmen on Thursday. Adoki noted that the strike will commence with effect from Monday, August 29, 2022.
