The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has cleared thirty-two Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates from the eighteen registered Political Parties for the 2023 election. World leaders will gather this week in New York to address the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to reports, the war in Ukraine, climate change and nuclear disarmament would dominate speeches and discussions during the annual gathering that starts on Tuesday at the UN Headquarters. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres had said the gathering was happening at a time of great peril.
Nigeria’s total public debt stock rose from N41.60trillion in March to N42.84trillion in June, 2022. According to the Director-General of the Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, the total debt represents the domestic and external debt stocks of the Federal Government, the 36 State Governments and the Federal Capital Territory. Oniha noted that more than 58 per cent of the external debt stocks are concessional and semi-concessional loans.

Kaduna State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned the recent kidnap of 43 Worshippers in the State. Speaking with newsmen in Kaduna, the State Chairman of CAN, John Hayab, advised Security Agents to go after the criminals until the Worshippers are rescued and safely returned to their homes. Hayab, however, urged Christians to be watchful to ensure the security of their lives during services.
Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has discovered a building used as a dump site for illegally refined petroleum products in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
