Egypt sentences former Presidential Candidate to jail

An Egyptian Court has sentenced former Presidential Candidate, Abdel Fotouh and several prominent figures to jail terms for plotting to overthrow the State. Fotouh, was sentenced to 15 years in prison subject to appeal, the Court ruling. The Deputy Head of his Strong Egypt Party, Mohamed al-Qassas, received a 10-year sentence. Rights groups have repeatedly criticized such mass sentencing in Egypt and called on authorities to ensure fair trials.

Plane with 22 passengers on board missing in Nepal

A small plane with 22 people on board flying on a popular tourist route is declared missing in Nepal. This was disclosed by the Tara Air Spokesman, Sudarshan Bartaula on Sunday. According to Bartaula, the flight lost contact with the airport tower shortly after takeoff. Meanwhile, the Home Affairs Ministry’s Spokesman, Phanindra Pokharel, disclosed that two helicopters were deployed for a search operation but added that visibility was low.

Senegal’s President, Macky Sall, has revealed that eleven newborn babies died in a hospital fire in the western city of Tivaouane. In a tweet, Sall noted that the fire at the Hospital was in the maternity department. The city's mayor, Demba Sy said three babies were saved from the fire. Also speaking, the country’s Health Minister, Abdoulaye Sarr added that an investigation was under way.

Former The Gambia President To Face Prosecution.

The Gambian government has revealed plans to prosecute former President Yahya Jammeh. Jammeh has been accused of corruption and serious human rights violations, disappearances and imprisonments. He ruled until 2017 when he went into exile after a shock electoral defeat. According to reports, the former President now lives in Equatorial Guinea, which has no extradition treaty with The Gambia.
