A Belarus court has sentenced the country's main opposition leader, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to 15 years' jail in absentia. Tikhanovskaya fled the country in 2020 after running against authoritarian leader, Alexander Lukashenko in presidential elections. The charges against her include high treason and conspiracy to seize power. The opposition leader, however, rejected the court's legitimacy.

Cambodian opposition leader Kem Sokha has been sentenced to 27 years under house arrest after being found guilty of treason. The judge announced that Sokha would be banned from politics and voting in elections indefinitely. Earthquake Hits Eastern Tajikstan

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Tajikistan at a depth of about 20.5 km on Thursday. At least two people have been killed and more than 50 trapped after a coal mine collapsed in northern China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region. According to reports, rescuers brought out three people, two of whom showed no signs of life. Inner Mongolia is a key region for mining coal and other minerals in China, which has ravaged the original landscape of mountains, grassy steppe and deserts.
