A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Tajikistan at a depth of about 20.5 km on Thursday.
The US Geological Survey estimated that little or no population will be exposed to landslides from the quake, adding that a 5.0-magnitude aftershock hit the area about 20 minutes after the initial quake.
It revealed that its epicenter appeared to be in a semi-autonomous eastern region that borders Afghanistan and China.
The sparsely populated territory is surrounded by the towering Pamir Mountains.
Despite losses recorded in previous trading day, investor’s sentiments remain positive in stocks as gains in some blue-chip stocks lifted the market capitalization by N68.762 billion to N29.589 trillion.
