Court Grants Reps Majority Leader Bail

A Federal High Court has granted bail to House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Doguwa, who is accused of the alleged killing of some persons on election day. The presiding Judge, Muhammad Yunusa , granted Doguwa bail on Monday. He was detained by the police last week and subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur on six count charges including culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, mischief by firearm and inciting disturbances.

NLC and Maritime Workers Union to Embark on Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria have threatened to embark on strike in two weeks’ time over the refusal of the Federal Government to pay sea farers their entitlements. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, urged the leadership of the union to issue a two-week challenge to the federal government over the international oil companies’ refusal to obey government’s Marine Notice.

Federal High Court to Observe Easter break

The Federal High Court will, on March 31, commence its Easter vacation. A statement signed by the Court’s Assistant Director of Information, Catherine Oby-Christopher, said the vacation would last till April 17. The statement added that the court would resume sitting on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, noting that the Abuja, Lagos and Port-Harcourt judicial divisions will remain open to the public only for cases of extreme urgency.

NPC Records Low Attendance during Trial Exercise

The National Population Commission, NPC, has recorded a low attendance during its trial exercise. Federal Commissioner of NPC in Edo State, Tony Aiyejina, disclosed this at a one-day capacity building workshop on effective reporting of the 2023 population and housing census held in Benin City. Aiyejina added that the trial period serves as a preparation for the organization, ahead of the national headcount schooled for March 29 – April 2.

NAPTIP Reveals Number of Rescued Traffic Victims

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has revealed that at least 2,743 trafficked victims have been rescued. Director-General of NAPTIP, Fatima Waziri-Azi, revealed that 1,440 of the reported cases, 412 were external trafficking while 1,028 of the cases were internal.
