The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has established a crisis team after last year's incident in which Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Chief Executive of the Academy, Bill Kramer revealed the award ceremony will be prepared for anything. Kramer said the institution has implemented the organization of a group focused on handling emergency situations at the annual event.
Nigeria Flying Eagles beat Egypt 1-0 to move second in group A of the ongoing AFCON U20 Nations Cup taking place in Egypt. The seven-time African champions won their second group game against Egypt when Solomon Agbalaka powdered a head past the young goalkeeper.
Nigerian boxer Efe Ajagba has moved up two places to 13th spot in the latest WBC heavyweight rankings for February. Ajagba claimed a win over Stephan Shaw by unanimous decision at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. The boxer was ranked 15th in January.
The man convicted of killing rapper Nipsey Hussle, Eric Holder, has been sentenced to at least 60 years in prison. Superior Court Judge Clay Jacke announced Holder's 60 years to life sentence after hearing from one of Hussle's friends as well as reading a letter from Holder's father. The man was found guilty of first-degree murder last July for killing Hussle, outside his South Los Angeles clothing store in 2019.
Reports say severe incidences of flooding in 2022 slowed Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product growth to 3.10 per cent in 2022 from 3.40 per cent in 2021. According to GDP results from the National Bureau of Statistics, reduced growth in the agriculture and industrial sector of the economy slowed GDP growth in 2022. Guinea's transitional leader Mamady Doumbouya has urged the constitutional review committee to consider the needs and realities of the country and draft a robust new supreme law. The Economic Community of West Africa, ECOWAS, Observer Mission to Nigeria has implored the Federal Government to address the fuel and cash scarcity in the country. The mission, led by former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Koroma, made the appeal during his visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, in Abuja. Koroma stressed that the insecurity crisis in the country should be resolved before the February 25 election.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC, has raised alarm over alleged plans by politicians to buy votes ahead of Saturday’s general elections.
