Nigerians applying for passports will be charged N1000 in for the verification of their National Identification Number. This was contained in a statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communications,  National Identity Management Commission, Kayode Adegoke. The statement noted that the fee is to improve the quality of service, accuracy, and speed of passport services through timely verification of NIN.

Tropical Storm Claim Lives in Malawi

At least 60 bodies have been recovered in Malawi's Blantyre after Tropical Storm Freddy hit southern Africa for the second time in a month. Police spokesman, Peter Kalaya, said people have being carried away by running waters, and buildings collapsing. Kalaya added that relentless rain and strong winds have hampered overstretched emergency teams in the country's southern and central regions, which are worst affected.

Cashless Transactions Fell to N37.67tn in February

Reports say cashless transactions fell to N37.67tn in February 2023. The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System revealed that this was a 4.83 per cent fall from the N39.58tn that was recorded in January. The data noted that e-payment gateways were used 901.46 million times, a 41.29 per cent increase from the 638 million times they were used in January.

Former Super Falcons Coach Dies at 79

Former Head Coach of Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s senior national team, Ismaila Mabo, has died at the age of 79. According to his family, the former national player died after a protracted illness at his residence in Jos, Plateau State. The late Mabo was head coach of the Super Falcons at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and was also in charge at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics.
