Reports say the amount spent on fuel subsidy monthly rose from N60.39bn in March 2021 to N245.77bn in March 2022. According to data obtained from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, within this one-year period, fuel subsidy gulped N2.08tn. In March, April, May, and June 2021, under-recovery for PMS amounted to N60.39bn, N61.96bn, N126.29bn, and N164.33bn respectively.
Ecuadoran President Guillermo Lasso has imposed a state of emergency in three provinces over drug-related violence. Lasso blamed drug trafficking gangs who use the country as a transit point for exporting narcotics to the United States and Europe for the violence. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disqualified two of its 17 presidential aspirants. Chairman of the Screening Committee, David Mark, disclosed this after the conclusion of the exercise at the presidential campaign headquarters of the party in Abuja. Mark, who did not reveal the identities of the disqualified aspirants or the reasons for their disqualification, noted that the aspirants did not meet the requirements set by the panel.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has purchased his nomination form to contest for re-election, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Sanwo-Olu is seeking another four years in office that will expire in 2027. The Governance Advisory Council the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos State has reportedly endorsed him for a second term.
Enugu state Government has trained at least 260 youths in modern agriculture. Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Michael Ogbuekwe, disclosed that the training was part of the state government’s effort to empower youths to gain agricultural experience in line with international best practices. Ogbuekwe noted that the government is committed to agricultural development and youth involvement in modern day agriculture.
