IGP Orders Distribution of Weapons for 2023 Elections

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the distribution of weapons for officers across the country in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

According to a statement signed by the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Baba charged Commissioners of Police to ensure the safety and security of INEC personnel and materials before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

The statement directed Commissioners of Police to activate the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security to engage stakeholders in evolving strategies for mitigating threats to the elections.

It, however, reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to the protection of democratic heritage and national security interests.
