NGF calls for calm over death of student

The Northern Governors’ Forum has called on Christians and Nigerians to remain calm following the killing of a female student, Deborah Samuel of Shehu Shagari College of Education, in Sokoto for alleged blasphemy.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Spokesman of the Chairman of the Forum, Makut Macham, disclosed that the governors were concerned about the development.

The statement, while commiserating with the family of the victim, appealed that security agency be allowed to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Sokoto Government suspends School resumption

Sokoto State Government has announced the suspension of the resumption of Primary and Secondary Schools in the State by one week. The suspension was made known in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Ibrahim Iya, on Sunday. The statement noted that the suspension was sequel to the 24-hour curfew declared by the government after violent protests by some youths.
