UN secretary general calls for prosecution of terrorists in Nigeria

The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has said perpetrators of terrorism in Nigeria must be held accountable.

Guterres, who was in the country on a two-day visit, called for the prosecution of the attackers on the UN House in Abuja on August 26, 2011.

He assured that the UN remains steadfast in its commitment to support a peaceful Nigeria for all people.

The UN Chief thanked the government of Nigeria for its support in repairing the UN House which has enabled staff to return.

Recall that the attack claimed the lives of 23 UN staff and civilians and injured 16 others.

Deputy Speaker decries rate of kidnapping in Plateau

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, has decried the rate of kidnapping in his constituency, in Plateau State. Wase raised the alarm when a member of the House, Abdullahi Salame called for the establishment of a national task force to combat insecurity. The deputy speaker, however, opposed the establishment of a new security outfit, noting that the existing ones should be allowed to discharge their duties.
