Federal Government to Bar Calls from Unregistered SIMs

The Federal Government has ordered telecommunications operators to bar all outgoing calls of all Sim cards not yet linked with the National Identification Number, NIN, effective today.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, announced this in a statement on Monday.

The statement noted that the move was part of the implementation of the NIN-SIM linkage Policy of the government.

It urged Subscribers to link their SIMs to their NINs before the Telcoms can lift the restriction on their lines.

Recall, that the Federal Government had mandated telecommunications subscribers to link their SIMs with their NINs in December 2020.
