WHO appoints NCDC Boss as Assistant Director General

The World Health Organization, WHO has appointed the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu as the Assistant Director-General of WHO in charge of Health Emergency Intelligence.

The Director General of WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus who disclosed this yesterday in Berlin said the appointment takes effect from November 1, 2021.

According to Ghebreyesus, Ihekweazu will lead the work on strengthening pandemic and epidemic intelligence globally, including heading the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence.
