FG to Implement New Tariff Hike on Data and Calls

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said the Federal Government is set to implement a new tariff hike on data and calls. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the minister’s Special Adviser,on Media & Communications, Yunusa Abdullahi, in Abuja. According to the statement, this will start with the implementation of a percent excise duty tax on all voice calls, SMS, and data services.

Federal Government Bans Sim card Importation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has banned the importation of Subscriber Identity Module, SIM, cards. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami made the announcement on Monday during the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo in Lagos State. Pantami who noted that Africa’s biggest Country should not be importing things that could be produced within, urged Stakeholders and citizens to support government efforts to boost local patronage and consumption.

FG Directs Electricity Distribution Companies to Resume Meter Assets Programme

The Federal Government has directed electricity distribution companies to resume the Meter Assets Providers programme. The NMMP programme under the office of Vice President,YemiOsinbajo was introduced in 2020 to bridge the wide metering gap in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. While the MAP had barely reached 400, 000 homes in 2020, FG’s NMMP intervention in Phase 0 succeeded in reaching over 800,000 homes.

Electricity Supply Records Marginal Drop

Electricity supply in Nigeria recorded a marginal drop on Wednesday to 76,375.48MWh. According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, this is 0.6% lower than the 76,851.08MWh recorded the previous day. The decline in energy supply is on the back of a similar 0.6% decline in energy generation on Wednesday to 77,416.19MWh from 77,917.94MWh recorded on Tuesday.

Power Generation in Nigeria Rise by 2.1% to 85.78GWh

Nigeria generated a total of 86.78GWh on Thursday, representing a 2.3% increase compared to 84.84GWh generated in the previous day. According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Nigeria’s energy generation and supply is still below the minimum 105,000MWh required to record some level of stability in power supply in the country.
