Nigeria’s 4x100m Men Team failed to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. The Team ran 38.34secs on the opening day of the championships, but clocked 38.84secs in the final on Sunday. With the time, the Team dropped from 16th to 17th position, after Team Liberia’s performance took them to the 16th and final position for the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has congratulated Rivers United for emerging Champions of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League. Wike, who attributed the achievement of Rivers United to the Team’s determination, noted that by virtue of the league win, the Club would represent the Country in the CAF Champions League next season.

The Federal Government has revoked its decision to suspend Nigeria’s basketball teams from all international competitions. Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Ismaila Abubakar revealed that the decision is based on a letter of appeal from the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF. Before the reversal of the ban, FIBA had replaced the D’Tigress with Mali ahead of the FIBA Women’s World Cup to be held later in the year.

FIFA has approved 26-man squads for this year’s World Cup in Qatar. This is an expansion on the 23-man squads that had been used before the coronavirus pandemic. The Football Body added that up to 15 substitutes can be named for a game, meaning no player misses out. The deadline for all 32 countries competing to submit their final squads is 20 October.  

Cameron Norrie will go into Wimbledon with just one singles grass-court win. Norrie was edged out 7-5 7-5 by American Cressy. Fellow Briton Ryan Peniston reached a second ATP quarter-final in a week as he beat Pedro Martinez 7-6 (10-8) 3-6 6-3.

Serena Williams' and Ons Jabeur reached the Eastbourne doubles semi-finals with a win over Shuko Aoyama and Chan Hao-ching. Williams playing her second match in 12 months, produced a strong serving performance in a 6-2 6-4 win over the doubles specialists. She and Jabeur saved all nine of the break points they faced.  

Senegal forward, Sadio Mane has completed his move to Germany champions, Bayern Munich from Liverpool on a three-year contract. This was disclosed by Bayern President, Herbert Hainer on Wednesday. Bayern, who won a record-extending 10th straight league title last season, have reportedly agreed on a transfer worth about $42.1million for Mane.
