The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has created a portal for the deposit of old naira notes. According to the CBN, Nigerians can redeem their old N1,000, N500, notes by completing an online form. The apex bank provided a link to the portal to enable the masses deposit old notes in their possession.  

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that the old N500 and N1,000 banknotes are no longer legal tenders. Buhari, who made this known during an address to Nigerians, stated that the old N200 note will be legal tender for the next 60 days, till April 10, 2022. The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has received a batch of 150 Nigerians repatriated from Niamey, Niger Republic.
