Jazz pianist, composer and band leader Ahmad Jamal has died aged 92. According to his daughter, Sumayah Jamal, revealed that the cause was prostate cancer. Jamal was known for a sparse playing style often placing silence between notes.
At least 3,000 Kenyans are stuck in the Sudan fighting. Reports say Imo State Labour Party held separate primary elections, producing two different governorship flag bearers. Nigerian-born Italian volleyball star, Julia Ituma, has died after a suspected fall from a hotel room window in Turkey. Turkish police said Ituma was staying on the sixth floor of a hotel in Istanbul. The body of the 18 year old Italian-born athlete of Nigerian origin was discovered in front of the hotel.
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, says it has destroyed 10 million substandard tyres in six months. A statement issued by the Director General of SON, Farouk Salim, made this known at a one-day sensitisation programme. Salim added that the agency had also trained over 800 tyre importers and vulcanisers on ways to identify quality tyres in its bid to ensure safety on Nigerian roads.
Japanese officials have approved controversial plans to build the country's first gambling resort. Casinos have long been illegal in Japan, but a law was passed in 2018 providing exceptions to games, such as poker or baccarat, to create jobs and boost tourism.
