The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has postponed the governorship and state house of assembly elections scheduled for March 11. INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education, Festus Okoye, announced the postponement in a statement. According to the statement the elections will hold on Saturday, March 18. Reports say a passenger train crushed a Lagos State Government staff bus at PWD area of the state. The spokesperson for the State Traffic Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo, revealed that an unspecified number of people have been injured. Adebayo noted that rescue operation was ongoing, adding that the accident recorded many casualties as the bus is fully loaded with government staff going to office.
Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has announced the promotion of all State civil servants to the next grade level. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has shut down amenities in Imo State over alleged ill-treatment of workers by the state government. A statement issued by its President, Joe Ajaero, charged the Federal Government to deploy all means at its disposal to protect lives of citizens and workers in the state. The statement lamented that citizens’ engagements with the government are almost non-existent while participation in social life is petering to nothing.

The United Kingdom government has appointed Richard Montgomery as the new British High Commissioner to Nigeria. Montgomery’s appointment was announced in a statement issued by the UK government. He is expected to begin his new role in April 2023. The High Commissioner will take over from Catriona Laing who has been the UK’s representative in Nigeria since 2018.
