In a recent ruling, Emeka Nwite , Justice of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed that charges of alleged N80 billion fraud against former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, be served through his lawyer, Abdulwahab Mohammed.
The decision came during a hearing on an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for substituted service on Bello.
The order was issued by Nwite after arguments presented by Kemi Pinheiro, lead counsel to the EFCC, despite initial reluctance from Bello’s lawyer, Abdulwahab Mohammed to accept the charges and proof of evidence.
Yahaya Bello, who was not present in court, was represented by his lawyer, after a bench warrant was issued against Bello due to his consistent absence in court following an application by the EFCC, warranting the commission to declare the former governor wanted for evading the criminal charges against him.
