Reps To Intervene on Electricity Tariff says Kalu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, announced on Monday that the house will discuss the recent electricity tariff increase when plenary resumes later this month. Recall, that the hike, approved by NERC, raised prices for Band A customers from N66 to N225 per kilowatt, resulting in a 300% increase for urban areas with 20 hours of power supply.
The announcement sparked widespread concern, with fears that it will worsen economic hardships. Kalu has assured Nigerians that the parliament will address the issue, considering both investor interests and citizens’ welfare.
Kalu affirmed that the parliament will examine the matter thoroughly to find a fair resolution, emphasizing the importance of addressing essential services while considering the financial burden on citizens.
