The Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2, has summoned five social media users over their involvement in the defamation of gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo; and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa.
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna ordered the five defendants to appear in person before the court on April 23, 2023, to respond to the charges brought against them by the complainants, as stated in the court.
The complainants in the case are Blessed Uzochikwa and Mercy Chinwo while the five defendants are Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie.
The suit followed posts the defendants made last week after the gospel singer and her husband posted a picture of their son on Instagram.
The defendants went viral with their claim that Nathaniel Bassey, a different gospel musician, was the father of the child when they posted a picture of the child and claimed that the child resembled him.
Mercy Chinwo and her husband filed a criminal complaint, claiming that the defendants had engaged in cyberstalking, injurious untruth, and intimidation directed at them, under the direction of Pelumi Olajengbesi of the Abuja-based legal firm Law Corridor.
