The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has affirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to assisting domestic airlines in securing long-term aircraft leases at competitive rates. He stressed this during an interview at the Air Peace Lagos-London flight inaugural event.
Keyamo highlighted the importance of supporting Nigerian airlines in their international operations and addressing challenges that hinder their performance on various routes. He emphasized the significance of accessing long-term leasing and reducing aircraft insurance costs to empower domestic airlines and ensure fair competition against foreign carriers.
The Minister explained that bilateral air service agreements (BASAs) provide reciprocal rights for airlines from different countries to operate flights. He noted challenges faced by Nigerian carriers in accessing favorable lease terms compared to international airlines, stressing the need to level the playing field to enable local operators to compete effectively.
