Teenage Student Invents Soap for Cancer Treatment

A teenage student in middle school, Heman Bekele, has been recognized as America’s top young scientist for creating a bar soap that treats the skin disease melanoma.

Bekele, a 14 year old from Annandale, Virginia, won the award after beating out nine other contestants.

According to reports, he won $25,000 in the 2023 3M’s Young Scientist Challenge, for inventing a bar of soap that could be used to treat skin cancer.

With the prize funds, Bekele said he hoped to move his soap through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process.
