X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced a new programme requiring new and unverified users to pay a $1 annual subscription fee to sign up.
This was contained in a statement shared on the support account of the popular social media platform on Wednesday, October 18.
According to X, the program is now being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines. the test will allow new accounts to post and interact with other users.
In a tweet X’s chairman, Elon Musk disclosed the reason for the annual subscription fee.
According to Musk, the charge will reduce spam and automated bot accounts.
The US President, Joe Biden has landed in Israel on Wednesday on a solidarity visit following Hamas attacks that have led to major Israeli reprisals. Air Force One touched down just before 11 am (0800 GMT) at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to welcome Biden personally on the tarmac.
