Beijing has closed more gyms, malls, cinemas and apartment blocks.

Authorities are ramping up contact tracing to contain a COVID-19 outbreak, while the month-long lockdown in Shanghai continues.

People in various districts have been protesting against the lockdown and difficulties in obtaining provisions.

Beijing’s Chaoyang district, the first to undergo mass testing this week, started the last of three rounds of screening on Friday among its 3.5 million residents.

Court Remands 15 PDP Members in Correctional Centre

A magistrate court in Port Harcourt has remanded 15 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over alleged disruption of screening at the Rivers State party secretariat. The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Amadi Nna, ordered that the suspects be remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre. Nna adjourned the matter to May 26, 2022, for bail consideration. The party members pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
