Former Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman will take over as Netherlands boss from Louis van Gaal after this year’s World Cup, This was disclosed by the Dutch football federation on Wednesday. It will be Koeman’s second time in charge of the Dutch national team after taking the reins from 2018 to 2020, when he left the post to become coach of Barcelona.

Manchester United’s former striker Wayne Rooney has said the club cannot afford to fail again when it comes to appointing their next permanent manager. Rooney believes Paris St-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino would prove a better fit than Ajax's Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. He said Pochettino has done it in the Premier League.

AC Milan were held to a 0-0 home draw by Bologna, leaving them one point clear at the top of Serie A. Wins by defending champions Inter Milan and second-placed Napoli at the weekend put pressure on Milan to respond. Milan has seven games left as they pursue their first Scudetto since 2011.

Carlos Alcaraz beat Norway's Casper Ruud to become the youngest winner of the Miami Open. Alcaraz overcame a slow start to win 7-5 6-4 against Ruud. He became the third-youngest winner of a Masters 1000 title after compatriot Rafael Nadal and American Michael Chang.

Barcelona beat Sevilla to move up to second in La Liga. Pedri, who showed great composure on the edge of the box scored a brilliant second-half goal. Sevilla had started the day in second place, but dropped to fourth, behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on goal difference.

Casper Ruud beat Francisco Cerundolo, to book his place in his first Masters 1000 final. Ruud, the world number eight, got the decisive break of serve in the 10th game of the opening set. The world number eight, had moved into the last four on the back of a three-set win over Alexander Zverev.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has signed a one-year contract extension with the club. Fernandes, who joined in January 2020 for an initial £47m, is now under contract until 2026. He has scored 49 goals in 117 matches in all competitions for United.
