World Bank Reveals That Covid-19 Programs Hit $11billion

The World Bank has said its COVID-19 vaccination programs in 81 countries would hit $11billion dollars by the end of June. The President, David Malpass noted that the institution was dealing with COVID-19, inflation and the war in Ukraine. Malpass added that China’s COVID-related shutdown may weigh on the world economy in 2022 even as the war is putting stress on poor people around the world.

Nigeria’s Power Supply Drops

Nigeria’s power supply dropped for the third consecutive day on Monday starting the week with a total supply of 83,723.87MWh. This represents the lowest power supply since 10th April 2022, while the grid was still recovering from the disruption. Similarly, the total energy generated also dipped to 84,764.67MWh on Monday, which is 3.19% lower than the 87,553.76MWh recorded the previous day.

CBN ORDERS RELEASE OF N3.5BN REBATE TO EXPORTERS

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has ordered the immediate release of N3.5bn rebate to 150 exporters who participated in the Race To $200bn scheme. This was one of the outcomes of the Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Thursday. The apex bank had in February revealed that it would pay exporters N65 for every $1 sold into the economy through the Investors &Exporters window.

NAIRA SLUMPS AHEAD OF EASTER CELEBRATION

The naira slumped and exchanged to the dollar at N590 at the parallel market ahead of the Easter celebration. On Monday, the naira had earlier traded to the dollar at N588. At the Importer & Exporter forex window, the naira fell by 0.20 per cent to close at N417.5 after reaching a high of N444.

Foreign airlines to begin sale of tickets in dollar

Reports say some of foreign airlines flying into Nigeria will on April 19 begin the sale of their tickets in dollar. This comes as foreign carriers’ unremitted ticket sale proceeds in Nigeria reportedly hit $283m rrecently. The international airlines on APG Interline Electronic Ticketing Agreements GP code 275 would start issuing tickets in dollars, effective April 19, 2022.

Investors Gain N87bn

Investors gained N87bn at the end of trading on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited. The market capitalization of equities rose to N25.536tn on Wednesday from N25.449tn on Tuesday. The All-Share Index also rose to 47,367.31 basis points from 47,205.03 basis points.
