FG to Implement New Tariff Hike on Data and Calls

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said the Federal Government is set to implement a new tariff hike on data and calls. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the minister’s Special Adviser,on Media & Communications, Yunusa Abdullahi, in Abuja. According to the statement, this will start with the implementation of a percent excise duty tax on all voice calls, SMS, and data services.

Naira Closes at N428 to a Dollar

The exchange rate between the naira and the US dollar closed at N428.75/$1 at the Investors and Exporters window. Naira appreciated by 0.52% on Tuesday, close trading at N428.75/$1 from N431/$1 recorded in the previous trading session. At the peer-to-peer market, Naira fell to N681.84/$1 on Wednesday morning from N670.4/$1 recorded as of the same time on Tuesday, representing a 1.71% decline.

Debt Servicing to Hit N10.43trillion

The Federal Government has projected that debt servicing will cost N10.43trillion by 2025. According to the 2023-2035 Medium Term Expenditure Framework & Fiscal Strategy Paper, this represents 182.66 per cent increase from the N3.69trillion budgeted for debt service in 2022.
