The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama on Thursday has postponed further hearings on the leadership crisis within the Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to November 8.

Charles Agbaza announced the new date, where he will also address a motion by 15 NNPC staff members requesting his recusal from the case, citing concerns over his impartiality.

The defendants argue that some interim orders made by the judge reflect bias, affecting their confidence in a fair resolution as they specifically challenge a recent court order involving the appearance of a former management committee president, which they believe prejudged the case.

The court will also address pending applications during the next hearing as the case was brought by four aggrieved cooperative members, with the NNPC Cooperative Society and 15 individuals named as defendants.

Earlier in the proceedings, the plaintiffs’ counsel signaled an intention to withdraw a contempt charge against NNPC’s Human Resources Fatima Yakubu, for allegedly violating court orders.
