The Paris Olympics organizers on Thursday were investigating the chaotic events during the football match between Argentina and Morocco, which was disrupted by crowd trouble.
Argentina’s football association has called for action following the defeat while Morocco won the match 2-1, but the game saw significant confusion and crowd issues.
Argentina thought they had equalized in the 16th minute of injury time, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review and the match was interrupted by pitch invasions and projectiles thrown onto the field, including a firecracker aimed at the Argentina bench.
After a nearly two-hour delay, the match resumed for three more minutes in an empty stadium.
According to the Paris 2024 organizers, they are working with stakeholders to understand the incident and take appropriate actions while Argentina’s coach, Javier Mascherano, described the events as a scandal, and the Argentine FA has lodged a formal complaint with FIFA’s disciplinary committee.
