TCN Reports Sand Excavation Activities Pose Threat to Transmission Towers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, on Monday, discouraged illegal sand excavators from carrying out their activities around its transmission towers.
In a statement on their official X page, TCN said the activities of sand excavators are a threat to their towers and operations.
The statement stated that the TCN patrol team while on routine patrol on B1T and B2T Benin-Onitsha 330kV transmission lines, discovered a violation of its transmission line Right of Way by sand excavators, emphasizing that the activities of excavators on this particular site have largely affected the integrity of Towers 15 and 16 at Umelu Community in Benin City.
TCN also noted that such activities by sand excavators around its towers causes deep erosion that affects the foundation of towers, and threatens grid stability and in addition, leads to loss of lives and property.
