New Zealand Swears in New Prime Minister

Chris Hipkins has been sworn in as New Zealand’s new prime minister following the resignation of Jacinda Ardern.

Hipkins formally took office in front of New Zealand’s governor-general, the representative of the United Kingdom’s King Charles who is the country’s head of state.

He was elected to head the party on Sunday after Arden announced she would step down.

Carmel Sepuloni was also sworn in as deputy prime minister, the first person of Pacific Islander descent to hold the role, during the ceremony.

Tems Earns Oscar Nomination

Nigerian Singer Tems has become the first Nigerian artist to earn an Oscar nomination. The Singer was nominated for her contribution as a songwriter on 'Lift Me Up' one of the soundtracks on Marvel's 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'. The 2023 Oscar award is set to hold on Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theater and voting for the 2023 Oscars will run from March 2nd -7th.
