Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has urged the Federal Government to build new dams and dredge major rivers in Nigeria to check flooding.

Okowa, who made the call after visiting flood victims at three Internally Displaced Persons, IDP camps, commiserated with families that lost relatives and property to the flood.

He implored the Federal Government to de-silt Rivers Niger and Benue to deepen their depths to be able to retain a high volume of flood.

The Governor maintained that proactive steps must be taken towards stopping perennial flooding each time neighboring countries opened their dams.
