The United Nations’ special envoy to Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, has called for an end to violence and the release of all political prisoners.

Heyzer, who urged Myanmar leader, Min Hlaing to impose a suspension on all future executions, called for an immediate release of former Leader Aung Kyi.

The military seized power in February 2021, detaining elected leader Kyi and members of her civilian government.

Since then, the former leader has been tried and jailed on a slew of charges and still faces many more, while thousands of anti-coup activists have been arrested.
