The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, has said the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, does not speak well of our democracy.
Kukah made this known at the signing of a peace accord ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial election.
He stressed that Nigerian leaders must understand that without the universities giving opportunities for academic energy, it is impossible for the nation’s democracy to grow.
The Bishop urged Nigerians to participate in the electioneering process, adding that the urgency of fixing the nation is tied to the process of governance adopted in the constitution.
Banks borrowed N595.34bn from the Central Bank of Nigeria between January and February. Data showed that while N333.59bn was borrowed through the Standing Lending Facility in January, the amount reduced to N255.75bn in February.
