The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed allegations of insensitivity regarding the recent student kidnappings in Imo State, emphasizing their ongoing efforts in combating crime.

In a statement signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday, the Force Headquarters highlighted recent achievements by the Imo State Command, particularly in tackling kidnapping.

Among these successes was the arrest of five suspects—Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim, and Jubrin Idris—who were involved in kidnappings across Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa, along with the rescue of a kidnapped victim, all of whom were apprehended in Avu on August 21, 2024.

Additionally, the police reported the arrest of 25-year-old Nwauba Alex from Ebonyi State, who was caught attempting to rob two residents at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri, with a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights recovered from him.

The Nigeria Police also reaffirmed their commitment to fighting crime and improving security across the country, with Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, emphasizing the ongoing implementation of both proactive and reactive strategies to address these criminal activities.
