In a recent statement, Olusola Diya, the Bridge Commander in charge of 14 Brigade Ohafia, emphasized the importance of reporting any soldier or military personnel who torture civilians for having dreadlocks.
Speaking at the 33rd Social Media seminar in Aba, Abia State, Brig. Gen. Diya clarified that there is no law prohibiting dreadlocks, highlighting that targeting individuals based on their hairstyle is a violation of a citizen’s fundamental human rights.
Responding to concerns about military personnel harassing commuters with dreadlocks at checkpoints, Diya emphasized that there is no legal basis for such actions.
He warned of severe sanctions against any soldier found engaging in such behavior, and encouraged the public to report any unprofessional conduct by military personnel through social media channels.
