Nigeria’s First Lady Advocates Early Detection and Support for Autism Awareness Day.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, in her message on World Autism Awareness Day observed annually on April 2nd, highlighted the importance of early detection for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She emphasized that early detection can significantly improve the abilities of individuals on the autism spectrum.
She acknowledged the challenges faced by families with autistic loved ones, praising their dedication and love. She also commended community organizations for their support and resources for individuals with autism and their families.
The First Lady urged parents and caregivers to be vigilant about developmental milestones and seek professional help if concerns arise. She emphasized the need for collective support from society to empower individuals with ASD to overcome challenges and lead fulfilling lives.
According to the World Health Organization, approximately one in 160 children worldwide are on the autism spectrum, with a prevalence of one in 88 children in Nigeria.
