Nick Kyrgios’ Lawyers have said they will apply for an assault charge against him to be dismissed on mental health grounds.
Kyrgios, who is currently playing in the Japan Open in Tokyo, was not required to attend the hearing in Canberra on Tuesday.
The charge against him relates to an alleged assault in December 2021 on a former partner.
If convicted, the tennis star faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
The thriller Emancipation, starring the winner of last year’s Oscar best actor, Will Smith, will be released later this year. Reports say it will be open in cinemas on 2 December and will be available to stream from a week later, making it eligible for next year's Oscars. Smith resigned from the Academy and has since apologized to comedian Chris Rock, who had made a joke about his wife.
