INEC warns political parties against donations from foreign countries

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned all political parties not to collect donations from foreign countries.

Chairman of Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, stressed that parties cannot receive financial support from foreign countries to sponsor their electioneering activities.

According to him, if such support is received, it is necessary to transfer these funds to the electoral commission.

The Chairman, however, urged political parties and their candidates to comply with all the campaign guidelines as contravening them will attract sanctions
