Sri Lankan Declares State of Emergency

Sri Lanka’s acting President, Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared a State of Emergency and imposed a curfew to control a fresh wave of protests in Colombo.

Wickremesinghe, who made the announcement on Wednesday, said the directive was issued after intelligence reports that protesters were storming parliament, the Prime Minister’s office, and the residences of Service Commanders.

Recall that Wickremesinghe was sworn- in as Sri Lanka’s acting President after Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the Country earlier in the day after protests.
